Jane
This compact, deciduous shrub or small tree is prized for its early spring blooms, which emerge before the foliage. Its large, tulip-shaped flowers are deep pink to reddish-purple on the outside and soft white inside. With a slow-growing, multi-stemmed habit, it reaches around 10-15 feet tall and wide. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil, making it a beautiful ornamental choice for gardens and landscapes.
Little Gem
A smaller, more compact variety of Southern Magnolia, Little Gem typically grows 15-20 feet tall and 10-12 feet wide. It is known for its fragrant, large white flowers that bloom in late spring and summer, making it perfect for smaller landscapes or as a specimen tree. Little Gem thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained, slightly acidic soil. It is relatively low-maintenance, requiring regular watering, especially during dry periods, and occasional pruning to maintain its shape. This magnolia is perfect for adding a touch of elegance and fragrance to gardens or as a foundation plant near homes.
Southern
A larger variety, Southern Magnolia can grow 60-80 feet tall with a spread of 30-50 feet. It produces large, creamy white flowers with a sweet fragrance, typically blooming in late spring to early summer. Southern Magnolia thrives in full sun and well-drained, moist, slightly acidic soil. It is a low-maintenance tree that requires regular watering and benefits from occasional pruning to maintain its shape and remove deadwood. Southern Magnolia is ideal for large landscapes, providing year-round interest with its glossy, dark green leaves and impressive flowers.
Teddy Bear
A compact, evergreen magnolia with dense, glossy green leaves and a velvety brown underside. Produces fragrant, creamy-white blooms from spring to fall. Perfect for small gardens, hedges, and containers.
